Legal and General have embarked on a wide ranging transformation programme to remove technical debt within the organisation and leverage new and innovative technologies to maximise business potential

We are looking for a highly experienced Head of Infrastructure Architecture to lead a team of infrastructure architects based from our Hove site.

The Head of Infrastructure Architecture will be responsible for working closely with stakeholders, business representatives and subject matter experts to define and maintain technical roadmaps. They will play a significant role in defining, maintaining and communicating the Group IT Strategy, technology roadmaps, technical governance and investment pipeline.

The Head of Infrastructure Architecture will be responsible for working closely with stakeholders, business representatives and subject matter experts to define and maintain technical roadmaps that support Legal & Generals divisional business strategies and decision making for software solutions, infrastructure architecture and overall infrastructure services. They will define infrastructure standards based on best practices and repeatable processes ensuring they are embedded as part of the technical governance processes. They will play a significant role in defining, maintaining and communicating the Group IT Strategy, technology roadmaps, technical governance and investment pipeline.

Principal Accountabilities

Infrastructure Architecture – Lead the Infrastructure Architecture team in the definition of Group wide infrastructure roadmaps and implementation plans working closely with divisional architecture teams to ensure alignment of plans and its appropriateness to business requirements

Architecture Governance – Define and manage a framework of technical architectural governance in collaboration with architecture teams across the group to ensure there is a group-wide approach to the architectural management and decisions of our infrastructure.

Infrastructure Principle & Standards – Establish and lead on infrastructure architecture principles, standards, governance framework and align with project framework (across solution, technical, infrastructure, data, security disciplines) to guide decision making. Lead the technical architecture design authority. Creation of principles that include regulatory compliance such as GDPR and adherence to Treating Customers Fairly principles and L&Gs commitment to these

Strategic Analysis, Advice and Innovation – Provide support for the Group IT Strategy Director in innovation, advice on strategic IT decisions, technology choices and the assessment of investment cases for technology using excellent written and oral communication skills to present ideas in a business and user friendly language.

Lead analysis of technology industry and market trends to determine their potential impact on the enterprise architecture and deliver innovative solutions in support of Group IT Vision and Strategy, providing a perspective on the Group’s readiness to change and innovate.

Develop business case justifications and cost benefit analysis for proposed areas of spending and initiatives. This includes the directing of research on potential technology solutions and, where applicable, the implementation to support new initiatives; bringing in new thinking and market trends to drive business innovation.

People Development – Develop and enhance the talent profile for IT Architecture.  Ensure appropriate resourcing plans so that relevant organisational and people capability and succession plans are in place and managed efficiently in line with the Partnership Agreement. Build new capabilities in new technologies e.g. Cloud

Community – Establish a strong community of Architects, bringing together individuals in Architecture roles across the Group, building best practice and capability and introducing new tools and techniques. Lead a single view of Architecture to support identifying new opportunities, managing risk / regulation and better delivered shared services.

Treating Customers Fairly – Ensure that appropriate prioritising, planning, resourcing and contingency for customer issues are integrated into programme and resource plans so they are central to delivery and aligned to Legal & General’s Customer Experience and Treating Customers Fairly policy.

Qualifications

Appropriate IT qualification and membership is desirable

TOGAF or similar certification preferred

Knowledge

IT Architecture and Digital, including in-depth understanding of associated technologies and architectures.

Architecture tools and practices

Strategic planning

IT controls and associated protocols

The regulatory environment, including FCA, PRA    

Group strategy, policies and procedures where appropriate

Knowledge and experience of IT industry standards, IT governance

Knowledge of business ecosystems, SaaS, IaaS, PaaS, SOA, API, open data, micro services, event driven IT and predictive analytics and business intelligence/analytics.

Exposure and understanding of existing and emerging new technologies and processing environment.

Experience

Managing IT Architecture in a complex organisation

Broad experience across IT systems and products

Developing and managing complex internal business partner and supplier relationships with senior stakeholders at a Group level

Making complex technical IT decisions

Working with large scale IT out-sourcing

Experience with design and development from business requirements analysis through to change delivery

Managing and interpreting performance to enable business improvements

Proven leadership ability

Dealing with conflict

Wide and extensive experience across network, applications, data and infrastructure domains.

Experience of software development methodologies and structured approaches to system development.

Good understanding of data architecture and the technology required to support data led organisations.

Ability to develop, and project a positive image of the IT function and company through interpersonal, written and verbal communications to a wide range of audiences.

Proven ability to build successful working relationships, networks and team dynamics.
