To source and execute high quality Direct Investment in Clean Energy: technology, infrastructure, distributed and utility-scale assets or investments; that support the LGC strategy and financial targets of LGC.  The role will include interaction with other parts of L&G Group to identify potential synergies with LGC clean energy investments.

Originate, transact and manage Direct Investments within the Clean Energy sector for L&G to meet its business objectives and increase the profit emerging on the L&G balance sheet by increasing the returns.

To source and execute high quality Direct Investment in Clean Energy: technology, infrastructure, distributed and utility-scale assets or investments; that support the LGC strategy and financial targets of LGC.  The role will include interaction with other parts of L&G Group to identify potential synergies with LGC clean energy investments.

Originate, transact and manage Direct Investments within the Clean Energy sector for L&G to meet its business objectives and increase the profit emerging on the L&G balance sheet by increasing the returns.

  • Significant contributor to the investment pipeline.
  • Assist in setting the Direct Investment energy and infrastructure strategy.
  • Manage strategic and tactical sales of Direct Investments.
  • Operate within the L&G governance process for Direct Investments and ensure the exposures involving Direct Investments are within agreed tolerances (including risk and CRE appetite).
  • Acquire and dispose of Direct Investments which support the Investment Strategy of LGC and comply with mandates, limits and other governance criteria:
  • Significant contributor to the investment pipeline through analysis of the market and use of contacts.
  • Contributor to the Direct Investment pipeline and the forum for deciding on which deals are pursued.
  • Provide input to the forum for feedback on the LGC Direct Investment strategy
  • Take accountability for the completion of due diligence on an investment including:
  • Undertaking and overseeing asset-level commercial, technical, financial and legal due diligence workstreams; and
  • Managing second line due diligence and governance assessments undertaken by specialist colleagues from across L&G to complete the required internal components of the due diligence on the investment.
  • Manage the negotiation and ensure there is clarity of the legal structure and that the risks associated with the transaction are understood
  • Responsible for the economic valuation and modelling to deliver a quantitative appraisal of the assets in terms of expected returns and evaluation of how the structures will behave under loss scenarios and determining breakpoints for back stressing
  • Secure approval for any acquisition or disposal in line with group governance policies and processes. Ensure that information provided to decision making committees is accurate and risks are clearly presented.
  • Ensure all Management Information is high quality, timely and correct to support decision making, implementation of strategy and manage the asset pipeline.
  • The role holder will always operate within delegated authorities, risk tolerances and other limits which apply to Direct Investment.
  • Where appropriate carry out the duties of a Company Director with integrity and diligence; ensure that appropriate boards and management committees are established and accountable; that records are maintained and that meetings are held regularly; and that the business operates effectively and competently at all levels.
  • On-going management oversight of LGC clean energy portfolio investments.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Experience in clean energy investments, ideally including wind and solar technology.
  • Experience of working with institutional investors in relation to renewable energy investments.
  • Experience of managing formal Due Diligence including review of contracts, assessment of risks.
  • Ability to assess risk and to work with other parties to ensure risks of an investment are understood and accepted.
  • Must be commercially astute and demonstrate excellent negotiation skills
  • Strong interpersonal skills
  • Excellent quantitative skills
  • Ideally Business, Economics, Engineering or Mathematical Graduate with ACCA/CFA or equivalent
