We are looking to hire an Interim International Tax Senior Manager (15 month contract) to act as a tax business partner on international tax issues including providing advice to all business units in order to support the Group’s international growth strategy and to plan and manage tax exposures in relation to international projects, including in relation to PE risk, application of CFC and DPT rules and transfer pricing.

  • Act as a tax business partner on international tax issues including in providing advice to all business units in order to support the Group’s international growth strategy and to plan and manage tax exposures in relation to international projects, including in relation to PE risk, application of CFC and DPT rules and transfer pricing.
  • To lead the development and delivery of all Tax strategies, policies and plans for the International Tax specialism consistent with Group Tax strategy, statutory requirements such that business risk is understood and tax position optimised.
  • Provide innovative, creative solutions to strategic objectives, threats and opportunities relating to the International Tax specialism.
  • Apply judgement and technical skills to provide tax advice and guidance, to the tax leadership team and other senior managers & Directors within Group and the business to ensure sound understanding of International Tax issues in order to meet financial and business targets.
  • Develop and ensure that appropriate risk management controls and procedures are in place and fully adopted in order to achieve governance, compliance and control in line with Group needs.  Identify and evaluate key tax risks within the International Tax.
  • Represent the Group on specialist forums, lobby groups, committees; ensure the Group position is represented, influence developments and implement best practice into Group to ensure governance, compliance and performance improvement for the International Tax specialism.
  • Develop matrix reporting links with staff responsible for Tax in each of the International businesses and ensure that Tax is managed in line with Group policies in each of these businesses.  Provide specialist Tax support to the International businesses.
  • Work closely with the Head of Compliance Reporting and Risk to ensure all international tax issues are reflected correctly in the Group’s financial disclosures and tax returns.  This will include review of CFC disclosures etc.
  • Maintain good technical knowledge of international tax issues and monitor relevant changes in international and domestic tax legislation for applicability to L&G, in particular US Tax Reform developments, assessing impact and being able to provide clear briefing for BUs and non-tax specialists on the relevant issues.  Prepare representations on prospective changes on behalf of L&G for relevant tax authorities and industry bodies to ensure the Group’s issues and needs are represented.

Please note this role is offered as a 15 month fixed term contract / secondment.

Qualifications:

  • Qualified Accountant (6+ years PQE), or with sufficient experience of financial accounting to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.
  • Member or fellow of the Chartered Institute of Taxation or with sufficient tax experience to maintain up-to-date professional knowledge.

Knowledge:

Statutory and regulatory regulation

  • Expert knowledge of UK Taxes Acts as they apply to International Tax (including transfer pricing).
  • Good knowledge of other corporation tax issues.
  • Knowledge of the US tax code.
  • Knowledge of the impacts of the OECD’s BEPS project.
  • Good knowledge of the tax aspects of IFRS.
  • High level knowledge of the key reporting requirements of the PRA and other regulatory bodies where appropriate.
  • Understanding of the key concepts which drive regulation within our markets.

Business/Commercial

  • Have a sound understanding of the general business and financial services environment and regulatory business requirements and its impact on Legal & General's strategy.
  • Practical knowledge of each of the Group's businesses and how they interrelate including knowledge of the operational structures of senior management and their reporting lines.
  • Develops and maintains a working knowledge of the Group's policies and procedures including the Group’s risk management framework.
  • Develops and maintains a commercial awareness of all businesses and products offered within the L&G Group.

Reporting requirements

  • Ability to manage the production of both internal and external financial reporting documentation and announcements.

Systems and IT

  • Knowledge of L&G Group’s UK general ledger and management reporting system.
  • Sound working knowledge of Microsoft Office products including Excel, Word, Outlook and Powerpoint.
  • Detailed application of the department’s specific tax software packages.

  • Practice effective delegation to International Tax Manager: clear explanations, establish capabilities, use as an opportunity to develop, monitor progress and provide constructive feedback.
  • To take the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.
