Manage the production of all aspects of longevity risk assumptions for the purposes of pricing, financial accounting, reinsurance, product design and risk-based capital.  Innovate and develop new approaches to deepen the understanding of longevity risk and provide competitive advantage in risk selection.

Manage the production of all aspects of longevity risk assumptions for the purposes of pricing, financial accounting, reinsurance, product design and risk-based capital.  Innovate and develop new approaches to deepen the understanding of longevity risk and provide competitive advantage in risk selection.

Principal Accountabilities

Engage with internal and external stakeholders to challenge, improve or defend longevity modelling.  This will involve planning, organising and coordinating and with various stakeholders with differing, complex and potentially conflicting objectives.

Generate new intellectual property and longevity modelling capability to be competitive in LGR's chosen markets.  Embed new techniques and knowledge into longevity risk processes to enable competitive advantage to be gained from risk selection.  This will entail leveraging new data science tools and technology.

Delivery of current and expected mortality assumptions for front and back book, UK and international across all metrics.

Develop and execute plans and controls to improve the management of longevity risk, using the most advanced longevity science expertise and market practice for risk management.

Assessment of uncertainty associated with proposed mortaliy assumptions for use in Solvency II / EC calibrations and earnings volatility measurement.  Develop and manage models to produce assumptions and ensure regulatory compliance.

Inform stakeholders on mortality portfolio insights and evolution, both within L&G's portfolio and the general population to support achievement of divisional strategy and generate long term value.

Raise L&G brand profile, reputation and influence as a market leader in longevity risk through high quality publications and presentations.  Communicate company's Longevity Science strategy externally and internally. Grow relationships with CMI and other longevity-related external bodies to deliver longevity modelling insightsand influence modelling practice. 

Establish plans and processes across the business to monitor and manage emerging longevity risks, pressure on price and liabilities for longevity risk.

Lead and develop a multi-disciplinary (actuarial, statistical, medical, epidemiological and programming) team to deliver the accountabilities.  Provide leadership ensuring that effective people, processes, systems and controls are in place and that functions are integrated effectively.  Take the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group's policies and procedures.

Qualifications: Typically the jobholder will be a qualified Actuary with significant post qualification experience within a Life company / Consultancy.

Skills: Strong problem solving and analytical skills. 

Excellent Communication.

Ability to work flexibly and to energise self, manage and adapt to the changing demands and conditions within the organisation and market place. 

Commercial focus and ability to translate ideas into competitive advantage. 

Delivery focus and ability to plan and execute projects across multi-disciplinary teams.
