We are recruiting for a Head of IT Data Delivery in our Hove offices

The Head of Data Delivery will be responsible for the technical implementation and growth of strategic enterprise data solutions within LGR, to reduce operational risk and consolidate asset and liability data into single sources and ensure adherence to Data Management Standards/Policies. Market data ownership also forms part of this role.

The role holder will have an analysis and data science / development background, and will need to understand and steer agile delivery methods in the definition, design, delivery, testing and release of the data solutions, ideally in a financial services setting.  They will be required to work closely with Data Architecture and various Application teams who are responsible for interfaces to back end data.

In addition the role will be accountable for the transition of critical business developed solutions (such as Excel) into best practice designs, and where appropriate a secondary transition into existing or new data solutions. This will involve integration of knowledge, code and documentation into the existing BAU framework and where applicable definition of revision to process.  This will also require resource demand estimation and capacity management planning to ensure that the capability remains optimally resourced – especially with third party resources.

Define, deliver and continually improve the strategic data capability including core processes, tools and standards, including cloud based technology and data science.  LGR’s asset portfolio sits at over 60Bn; Liabilities amount to over 1 million customers.

Managed ongoing engagement with data users within the business teams to drive future demand for data solutions change.  Deliver LGR business benefit and profitability through their data solutions capability.

Ensure data solution capabilities are delivered in line with LGR SDLC and IT Security standards with robust release processes in place

Strategically deliver consistent data solutions that align to the Data Management Standards/Policies whilst balancing pragmatism towards improving business developed solutions, effectively manage end-of-life data solutions and retention

Proactively manage data analyst and developer team resource capability / capacity in line with known business demand

Effective operational and service team engagement to ensure a collaborative Continuous Delivery & DevOps capability is in place, including third party and multi-source arrangements

Rationalise critical business developed applications (such as Excel) into appropriately designed and controlled solutions

To take the lead in all matters with regard to the management of employees, ensuring that management discretion is used in a consistent manner and that the area follows the Group’s policies and procedures including the Partnership Agreement to maximise business performance.

Define, develop and deliver a strategy and plan to ensure business development activities are delivered in line with Legal & General’s Customer Experience and Treating Customers Fairly policy

Qualifications:

Degree level qualification in a technical or numerate field or equivalent experience.

Knowledge:

Proven ability to design, build, implement, and run enterprise data solutions

Knowledge of financial / insurance asset and liability data would be beneficial

Proven experience in a software development / SDLC delivery and understanding of the complexities surrounding data source control

Strong people management background

Ability to estimate, plan and manage , work with line managers to manage own work and keep within plan, and ownership of third party relationships

Past experience of working with the standard industry relational databases, data ETL layers, Ab Initio, Business Objects (or equivalent) reporting.  Data science and NoSQL would be valuable.

Experience with cloud and their scaled data solutions would be valuable

Sound documentation and communication skills in a client / customer facing environment

A strong technical aptitude, with a business solution focus

Proficient in problem solving with investigative and numeracy skills
